A phone with the login screen for our Wi-Fi network
The Keeping Digital Foundation, North Yorkshire’s leading digital inclusion charitable organisation, are delighted to announce the launch of their new and improved free Wi-Fi at their Digital Cafes.
After successful testing of our new Wi-Fi network at Heworth Digital Cafe, we are planning a phased roll out to even more of our Digital Cafes where free public Wi-Fi does not currently exist.

Free Wi-Fi, provided by the Keeping Digital Foundation, currently has a daily 2-hour time limit to ensure everyone can make use of our free connection when receiving support - however volunteers can override this for residents needing additional support.

Like the majority of our partners, on our Wi-Fi network, you might find that some webpages have been blocked by an automatic filter. This is intended to block illegal or harmful sites, and not as a barrier to legitimate internet use. Payday loans websites are blocked as part of City of York Council’s anti-poverty strategy.

Signing in to our free Wi-Fi has never been easier, with a brand new interface that makes accessing free Wi-Fi as easy as clicking a few buttons.
In your Wi-Fi settings on your device, look for the network called Keeping Digital Free
A log-in page will now pop-up on your device - it can take a few seconds to load
You can sign in via Facebook (on certain devices), or you can fill out the form to create your account/log-in. We only use these details to ensure our network remains safe, and to contact you about the Digital Cafe. We will never sell your details. Once done filling out the form, hit the arrow.
That's it! You will now be connected for 2 hours of free Wi-Fi. We limit it to 2 hours due to that being the length of our Digital Cafe sessions, however if it times you out and you still need support, speak to a volunteer who should be able to override it with a password.

Luke Castle, co-founder and Community Coordinator at the Keeping Digital Foundation, provided this comment on the launch of the new system:

"In today's world, having access to the internet is essential for personal growth and societal progress, from having the ability to keep in touch with friends, to growing your knowledge through online education or accessing healthcare services through the NHS app. Recognising this, the Keeping Digital Foundation is committed to ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to connect through free Wi-Fi at all of our Digital Cafes in York.

"We've been delighted at just how much residents are enjoying the new system, with all of our residents asked saying it has made accessing Wi-Fi at our Digital Cafes even easier, and provided a new location where they can access free public Wi-Fi. There is a wide range of locations across the city where residents can access free public Wi-Fi, and we encourage them to read our latest guide to find their nearest location.

"We also encourage local businesses and community organisations who feel their location would benefit from free community Wi-Fi to get in touch with our team to see if we can support a roll-out in their local area. They can email our team at hello@keepingdigital.org.uk."
